I visited Great Ormond Street Hospital on the 14th November 2016 to show Faith Gibson (Clinical Professor) and Kate Oulton (research co-ordinator) my 2nd year VR MRI project. They both liked the project and we discussed the next steps with regards to it. They both told me that if they were to use the project at the Hospital to show patients, they would need to carry out the necessary research so that it would be suitable to show young people, something that would take quite a long time to carry out. This would require funding from the Hospital, gathering a team, and then showing mainly young people the project, so they could give feedback, which I would use to improve and change the project a little more. I would use this template for my other projects as well.
When I mentioned to them about Sophie working with animation and communication, they were interested to hear more about this, and so wanted me to put them in contact with her as she could potentially be part of the research team. I then told them about my new idea regarding the hospital entrance and staff. We discussed the pros and cons of it a little, what would work and what wouldnt. They also mentioned the new Hospital Garden, and having patients in isolation not being able to visit it, and how I could potentially use VR with that.
Later that day when I was thinking about developing the Hospital Entrance idea, I remembered the mention of the Garden. I imagined the idea with VR in my head and decided to choose the idea of creating the new Hospital Garden in VR. I was thinking of ways it could be atmospheric, calming and peaceful for the hospital patients in isolation.
